Customer Service / NOC Technician - Tier 1 - Beltsville, MD- Commensurate with Experience Job ID: WPF-2


Are you looking for an entry-level, technically focused customer service position? Looking to break into the world of servers and network administration? Want to develop a highly sought after skill-set?

Position Description:
 

The position is shift based and shifts run 12 hours, 3.5 days on / 3.5 days off per week. Current shifts are Sun-Wed (Beginning of week) and Wed-Sat (End of week) as well as corresponding Overnight shifts for each. The position is centered on customer focused hosting including col-location and managed services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide “first on customer” type response to web-hosting, collocation, and datacenter customers via in-person, phone, and ticketing system contact.
  • Provide immediate resolution and basic break/fix troubleshooting via established procedures and tools.
  • All shifts work in tandem with higher tier operations/engineering to provide clear escalation of complex issues. You should have exposure or basic familiarity with the following areas to apply;
    • Phone and Office Etiquette, Help Desk or Ticketing software (e.g. Kayako, Remedy, etc…),
    • Computer troubleshooting and resolution with multiple operating systems

Ideal candidates will also display knowledge or a willingness to acquire knowledge of the following areas:

  • *NIX Operating Systems (FreeBSD, Linux, Solaris, etc…) command line
  • Web hosting applications (Apache, IIS, etc…) 
  • Database applications (MS -SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle are acceptable)
  • Shell scripting/automation of basic tasking (Bourne shell, ksh, csh, are acceptable)User Management controls in various *NIX OS. 
  • Installation and configuration of new server deployments using both Windows and various *NIX OS
  • Troubleshooting of hardware, OS and application level issues with servers
  • Networking topology and routing, such as basic TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP and familiarity with Cisco.

Training:
All work is done on live, production networks and servers. All Tier 1 shifts overlap with Tier 2+ shifts to provide escalation and mentoring as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have good time management skills.
  • Must be available to work the times and days specified.
  • Must be able to work on call if needed.
  • Must be willing to have work schedule altered as needed.
  • Must pass civil and criminal background and drug test investigation.
