The position is shift based and shifts run 12 hours, 3.5 days on / 3.5 days off per week. Current shifts are Sun-Wed (Beginning of week) and Wed-Sat (End of week) as well as corresponding Overnight shifts for each. Once established on a shift, they rarely change and do not rotate (so you can plan your life). The position is centered around customer focused hosting including co-location and managed services.
Primary Responsibilities: You will provide basic system administration skills such as break-fix, installation, configuration, package management in the *NIX arena as well as basic Network capabilities. You should have some experience in at least one of the following areas to apply;
- System Administration (*NIX, Microsoft Windows Server platforms)
- Network Administration (Cisco IOS, managing and troubleshooting of large scale heterogeneous networks, IP management, basic IP route setup)
- Ideal Candidates: Ideal candidates will have expert knowledge or aptitude to acquire knowledge in the following areas of expertise;
- *NIX Operating Systems (Solaris, FreeBSD, Linux, etc…)
- Apache or other web hosting daemons (lighthttpd, thttpd)
- MySQL or other databases (PostgreSQL, ORACLE)
- PHP/PERL other scripting language experience
- Sendmail, Postfix, Qmail or other MTA services
- Bind (DNS), inetd, SSHD, r*services and other low-level critical services
Ideal candidates will also have existing knowledge or display an aptitude and willingness to acquire knowledge of the following spheres of General System administration;
- Adding, removing of users. Managing user level permissions and access control
- Simple automation of repetitive tasks via system or shell scripting (PERL, sh, csh, ksh scripting, etc…)
- Scheduling of automated task executing (Scheduler, CRON jobs)
- Package management and their associated tools (yum, aptitude, ports)
- Troubleshooting and basic repairs or upgrades of server hardware internals, such as HDD replacement, RAM, etc…
- Basic system-level backups of critical data (tar, zip, rsync, etc…)
- Low level network protocols such as TCP, UDP, SNMP and how those connection(less) protocols operate on network and system levels.
- Application layer protocols such as HTTP, POP3, IMAP4, DNS, NFS, etc…and how to effectively tune, and secure both the protocols and underlying applications on various operating systems.
Training: Training is provided on a live, production network. The better you are at absorbing information and concepts, the better you will succeed. Pedantic note taking is a huge advantage to you.

- Must be able to work on call if needed.
- Must be willing to have work schedule altered as needed.
